Good printer for the money Review by J Mitchell
Quality
Price

This Printer is an overall good buy. The build process is quite tedious but not very complicated. It took be about 8 hours to get the thing fully assembled. One of the only reasons I find this printer such a good buy is because of their great customer service. You are given a skype account that you can text at anytime and expect a response within 24 hours. Although my printer came with a defective LCD, they gladly sent me a new one free of charge and my printer works great. I am able to print nice quality prints that are highly comparable to the Makerbot Replicator at my school. But with such a low price there are some draw-backs, the on-board system that controls the printer takes some time to learn how to use. Additionally, getting your setting right takes some time of trial and error. Other than that, it is a great printer for the money. (Posted on 6/23/2017)
you will have to try and figure out some things as items are turned around Review by Mpit52

The good thing is that there is a tutorial but you will have to try
and figure out some things as items are turned around. Once you get it
all put together you may have the issue of balancing the bed each time
you use it, since the rods bend. (They are supposed to so don't freak
out) To test it, I made a clamp and gameboy. Also you will want to put
this is a container while printing because there is allot of shards in
the air and you will get clogged up.

I had some issues and had to have parts resent but the company is very
polite and willing to work with you, just be patient.

Great printer - assembly a little challenging, but overall fantastic product. Review by Jacob

A great printer. Assembly is probably a little too advanced for beginners. It was rather tedious since all instructions were via YouTube video, some of which were difficult to follow, and some videos were for different (older) versions of the printer. It would have been great to have a printed assembly manual. But overall quality and performance is really good, especially for the great price. Would definitely recommend for intermediate to advanced users.

Amazing prints for the cost! Just be ready to put it together. Review by DreWizard

Over all an amazing 3D printer. I took my time putting it together and making everything neat and tidy so the build time was quite long (around 8 hours or so over two days). although this can be done much faster. So far the prints have been very good quality, but I cannot say how it compares to other printers since this is my first. The build quality of everything is top notch and fits together amazingly.
The only complaint I have is that one of the bearing brackets I received does not work very well but all the others work as intended. Once the build is complete the software already knows the size and locations of all parts (assuming it is wired correctly) the only changes after that is the Z axis end switch and leveling the bed. This also comes with extra screws thankfully since i stripped one on the bed and it took a few hours to take off...
Also the SD card comes with the software to make 3D objects into the correct file format for printing. Some of the test files are the correct format and some are not, so be mindful of that if the print doesn't work. Also the SD card comes with just about all the information you need to complete the build and making prints.
Oh, and one thing i had no idea it came with!! an SD card to USB adapter!!! (Posted on 6/22/2017)
Hobbyist Special Review by vanoden

Now that I've had time to assemble the printer, install and configure Repetier and make some prints, I figured it a good time to write a review.

First, the printer was a good deal when I got it. It is far cheaper now.

Assembly was time consuming, about 8 hours for me. A simple assembly guide would make this 5 stars for me. But, if you're a hobbyist, building this printer is as fun as the things you'll build with it. And since I made the first working print (4th try was the winner), it's been solid.

I did find the power supply was a modification, of sorts. There are holes that just don't line up. But there are holes that will catch 3 corners of the power supply correctly. Those three held strong enough. I found that like another reviewer I had wired the ground wrong...odd coincidence? Also, make sure to switch from 220v to 110v.

I did have to contact service at one point to get a missing part. Turns out, the part was under my couch...my thorough attempts to keep everything on a large metal tray failed. But they were pretty quick to respond to my request and to get me a replacement part.

The z-stop adjust does suck a bit, as others have mentioned. But once I got things lined up, I haven't had to play with it much. I found the y-belt was too loose after initial assembly...make sure this is pretty tight or the bed jogs a bit in one direction. You'll know it if you see it.

I don't have a ton of experience 3D printing, so I can't compare to many others. But I have some experience with the Dremel unit and, while it's quicker to get started, I found this printer to be far more flexible. The heated bed and being able to use Repetier software put this at another level. And the feeling that I can repair/upgrade any part of this printer is cool.

All in all, I'm very happy I got this unit, and have suggested it to friends. (Posted on 6/22/2017)
great printer !! some minor cons. Review by Michael Busch

First, I love my printer, it works great.
It was shipped in a box, everything was single packaged, nothing was broken. It took me about 6 hours to assembly the printer and about one hour to get it running (start it up, preheat, fiddle the filament through the extruder and adjust the bed).
I am aware that I got an updated version of the printer with a better power supply and a newer board. The old PS and board was prone to get burned out and cause damage.
Printing is easy, causes no trouble and the prints look great (for a less then $300 3d printer). I couldn't be happier.

Tipps:
Assembly:
- watch the videos, watch the videos, watch the videos.
- when you plan to buy one, don't cut your fingernails prior to purchase or assembling it, your def need your fingernails to do so.
- don't even think about taking short cuts in assembling the damn thing, it won't work. :)
- get some flex cable sleeves, don't use the crappy plastic wrap for the cables.
- go online, and check for printable updates for your printer, you def want to consider them. I mean the first 2 weeks you will spend all your time printing these updated parts.
- get goooooooooood filament, not cheap one. Good filament isn't cheap, but it save you a lot of trouble and money.
- get a power switch socket and update your printer, you will hate to unplug it every time you don't use it.

So why did I only give 4 stars??
Because I am not 100% satisfied with the printer.
- Yes the assembly was easy, but it is very flimsy and not really sturdy to begin with. After I printed some updates I am very happy with the printer.
- The current 240W power supply should be updated to a 350W PS.
- There should be a on/off switch on the printer to begin with.
- Some of the M3 nuts didn't tighten at all, I had to get a tool to tighten them.
- The way the cable run (see the product picture) is not how it should be done. the cable from the extruder head to the board is too short and must be rewired if you want to use your printer longer.
- the board is exposed, it doesn't come with a cover.
- the SD card slot is not really freely accessible, I used an extension coord to have it easily accessible.
- I had my fingernails cut two days prior to assembly.... I was a mess to peal of the paper from the acrylic.

Final thoughts after 3 weeks:
Still, after I made the updates (printed them) I am getting more and more happy. The printer works great, the prints look great. I really like it.
Every software I use was downloadable for free on the internet. I am drawing my own parts at the moment and printing them on the printer. Great workflow. I am only using one filament manufacturer , which provides me with trouble-free printing due to the consistent quality of filament.
For this amount of money, it's a great printer and I couldn't be happier to have it bought. (Posted on 5/16/2017)
Well I'll be damned... this is awesome! Review by DreWizard

After reading the other reviews, and seeing that they were all still highly rated despite a few "issues", I decided "oh why not, you know you want to..."

ONE WEEK REVIEW:
Let's start with the cons... as there are not many:

1) The Videos to describe how to put them together were low quality videos. Had to do a lot of rewinding and reviewing to see which part they were talking about.
2) The power supply provided was bigger than the one in the video, took some electrical common sense to figure out that I wired the power into 2 grounds, thus providing no power.
3) Also, since the power supply was bigger, for some reason it would not mount, so I had to drill an additional hole in the acrylic on the side of the printer to mount it.
4) Not sure if it was my filament, or a dirty clog (seemed like the latter), but the first time I tried to put filament through it instantly clogged. Had to dismantle the extruder, and blowtorch the tip to unclog. Also, seemed a lot more difficult to remove than normal filament clogs, had to get feisty with a needle to get the gunk out. After reassembling, it was perfect.
5) The Z-Stop is a pain in the butt. Generally if you need to adjust the Z stop, it's a fraction of a millimeter, but this is a weird "slider" kind of mount that is very hard to make miniscule adjustments. I just tighten it really good, and gently force it into calibration after a few Z-Home clicks and minor adjustments through brute force. Will probably redesign the z-stop.
6) For some reason (maybe it's the way I assembled it?) the little fan that connects to the extruder blower for "tip-cooling" was long enough to touch the heating element on the extruder, and immediately melted. I will have to design and print a better one.

PROS:
Everything freakin works great! My biggest frustration, aside from rewinding the video dozens of times, was adjusting the Z stop. The first print you can see on the left, at the bottom the Z was too high, but it eventually corrected itself and made a very clean print. The print on the right was actually done through a smart phone Repetier connection with a better Z-stop calibration.

You may be able to see the quality on the sides of the prints being a little spacey between the layers. The side that is showing is the only side that did this and I believe it's simply a bed leveling issue.

All-in-all I love this printer. I will be doing some advanced prints here in the next few weeks and I will be giving a one-month review with any additional experiences I acquire during that time.

6 MONTH REVIEW: Ok, so it has been a champ! I have had a few clogs in the extruder from switching between filaments and not purging the tip properly. Disassembled, torched, and reassembled.

Things to make careful note of: First off, the power supply is, in fact, underrated for the package. I received a 200W power supply, which is just shy of the requirements of perfect functionality. I ordered a 350W power supply for 3D printers, and hopefully it will resolve my issue. The only issue right now is how long it takes to heat the bed. When I tested with a multimeter, I was only getting 10.43V on the 12V powering the bed. I timed it today, and from ambient temperature (21C) it took 1 hour to get to 82C. Hoping the power supply is the only thing I need to address.

Still haven't had the time to print the new Z stop, as I really just want to redesign it instead of reprint the two parts into one. Just note that it is very finicky to adjust the z stop, and is generally a 5-10 minute process to get perfect calibration.

Finally, I highly highly recommend getting a 1/4"-3/8" of glass cut for this bed, as well as applying a PEI surface. This will help you stop using ABS slurry or tape to get your prints to adhere.

I designed and printed several different tips for the fan, but I have yet to print the perfect fan tip to replace the one it came with. When I do find a perfect fit, I will post a link in my review for the replacement tip.

1 YEAR+ REVIEW:

Ok, so I noticed several issues that needed to be addressed before I could consider this a good printer.

1) the acrylic bed may not be perfectly lined up with the screw holes on the bed. I ordered a replacement y carriage for the MK2 printbed off of reprapchampion.com and because of the design, I needed to print spacers to use the new bed. (spacers on thingiverse under mwinzer)

2) the print surface is incredibly slick, and is very hard to stick abs... you might get lucky with PLA... I recommend getting a piece of fitted glass and gator clamp it down. Use blue tape, or if you're feeling fancy, get a PEI build surface for your glass along with the 3M tape necessary to adhere it.

3) the Z stop mechanism is a sliding mechanism that resides directly behind one of the linear z rods/threaded rods. I redesigned a z-stop modification and uploaded it to thingiverse. (mwinzer is the name on thingiverse)

4) I needed to upgrade the power supply to get the bed to heat beyond 82C, then I noticed the temp jumps to 95C. The temperature table is off in the firmware, and the ANET customer service did not offer an update for firmware, but instead offered the suggestion to "lower the temperature"... long story short: ZERO customer service.

It was an amazing journey getting this thing printing like I like it... actually still have a friend that is planning on purchasing this for the same journey... as far as being 100% print ready? You'll have a lot to do. :) (Posted on 4/25/2017)
