How to download the firmware  (download)
Slicing Software
CURA:
  • Cura_15.04 download on https://ultimaker.com
  • How to Use Cura 15 (PDF) download
Repeiter Host:
Another idea software is Repeiter Host. Firstly you can download the software on repetier.com and install it to your computer simply following the instruction. Secondly you need to make simple setting for the software as below: 1. Click the button( printer settings) on the top right corner; 2. Choose the corresponding COM port And Baud Rate for M508 is 250000 3. Open the STL and GCODE file you have and make slicing with clicking button (slicer ---slice with curaengine) same on right column. You can adjust the size or other aspect of object as you liked. 4. Then get to start the printing by connecting to the computer.
Driver
This device driver can easily connect the printer to the computer and it provides a software interface to hardware devices, enabling operating systems to access hardware functions without needing to know precise details of the hardware being used. You will get the device driver from the SD Card also coming with your printer kit. There is two driver respectively compatible with the MAC and WIN system, which will provide the best choice for the correct driver suited with your computer. And you just need to connect the SD card to your computer and click the driver software and it would only take few minutes to be installed automatically.
Test Printing Files
Here is test printing file also enclosed in your SD Card which has been sliced and can be quick and directly printed with inserting the SD card into your assembled printer. This Gcode file changed from the original STL file is a great design with showing various kinds of printing form and you will need not to search for the exact file to make a test on the printing effect by your new DIY 3D printer.

  1. I have the M508 and have used it successfully quite a bit. There was a problem and I had to replace the circuit board. I’ve got new boards and want to reassemble the unit but the instruction video that came with the setup seems to be corrupted. I had some problems with it during initial assembly, but now it’s dead. This website links to assembly instructions on you tube, but those files seem to be dead too. Can you please send me a new set of assembly videos or fix the you tube options?

  2. Hello,

Attempting to auto-leveling to the printer. The firmware linked above does not appear to support this feature. Is it possible to use a newer version of Marlin firmware with this board?

  3. I bought the 3d printer of that product and assembled it, but turn on the power, and when I select ” preheat pra ”, the power will be dropped at the same time. Please tell me the cause and measures.

    1. Thank you for your comments. We would appreciate it if you could give us some pictures of your printer’s wiring. Also, we suggest you first check if you are using the right voltage according to your circumstance.

If you need any further assistance, please contact us by mail at alunar3d@htomail.com and we will get back to you within the next working day.

      1. I tried to send mail but it does not seem to be able to send with that side setting. Maybe because I am Japanese and I am sending mail from Japan. So I do not know the cause of the problem and I still can not use 3d printer. Please help me.

  4. Hi,

your printer has been working wonderfully for me so far. it’s been working so well that the filament ran out during a print because of excessive use. it looks like now the printer won’t heat up properly. THe print will start at 200 degrees, but then immediately jumps down to 32 degrees. My guess would be that a fuse blew in order to keep the printer safe when the filament ran out, but i’m not sure which parts i should replace or where to get those replacements. i have the m508 model with the 2014 main board.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi,
i think i found the problem. one of the screws on the extruder component fell out. I think that caused the extruder to be unable to heat properly since no more pla filament could be added and melted. the extruder wiring became a tad loose and the cylinder of metal that is normally secured in the extruder nozzle became loose because the glue melted? One of the extruder wires disconnected as well. Anyways, i order another alunar extruder from amazon. hopefully, that was the only problem and a quick swap will fix the issue.

      Thanks

      1. Silver,
Thank you for posting your comments. Hope your issues will be resolved satisfactorily.

Also, please don’t hesitate to write us back by mail at alunar3d@hotmail.com if any issues arise.

  5. hi, I recently purchased an m508 and assembled as shown by the instructions. When powering on for the first time the LCD turned on but displayed no text. I tried unplugging and replugging the wires as well as double checking the wiring. Are there other troubleshooting tips that I should try? Could it be a defective LCD or board?

    1. Richard,
Thank you for posting this review. We would apprecitate it if you could send us some pictures of your LCD wiring condition. So that we may further assist you with your issues.

If you need any further assistance, please contact us by mail at alunar3d@hotmail.com and we will get back to you within the next working day.

  6. I helped my 13 year old grandson build your M508 kit, and it was very successful and instructive – for both of us. We followed the video closely but were often frustrated when we could not identify the exact screw that was being used. I think we guessed right most of the time since the printer. Did we miss an alternative set of detailed instructions?

Also, when we tried to make the printer go to its Home position, it:
    – Made a grinding sound for a couple of seconds, then
    – The print head moved to the RIGHT instead of to the left. We manually hit the stop switch to get it to stop,
    – The hot plate moved to its home position normally
    – A Z-axis motor hummed briefly and quit after the assembly moved maybe one step.
We fixed it by swapping the X-axis and top Z-axis connectors on the board. (No, we had not plugged them in wrongly initially.)
We are satisfied with our fix, but I was wondering where a problem like this could possibly come from. It could hardly be a hardware issue, I’m guessing that the SD card dropped a few ‘lucky’ bits and would appreciate a guess as to where they might be located. (I plan to play with an Arduino board after taking care of a few pressing rojects, and this might be an interesting issue to look into.)

    1. Bill,

Thank you for posting this comment and communicating issues with your printer. We have forwarded your comments to our product team. We want to suggest you refer to th QUICK START GUIDE, there are corresponding descriptions to each type of srews and detailed guide as to where they might be located.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact us by mail at alunar3d@hotmail.com and we will get back to you witin the next working day.

  7. Hello i own a 2200.00 lutzbot taz5 printer . I wanted to get a sec printer so I can print smaller parts while larger parts was being printed on my taz. I bought the alunar m508 from Amazon assembled unit per instructions I used paper and the video together and unit went together no problems had a blast building it of course I’m a 20 year automotive tech so tearing things apart and putting them back together is in my blood. I leveled print bed 4 times just because when any leveling you change one corner it changes the other so I dialed it in turned it on printed a model in the files on ad card and I was shocked with quality so ahocked that I felt sick for paying 2200 for a taz because with the .4 nozzle produced a better quality print . I will be buying more of these printers until my wife says don’t you have enough printers . thanks alunar for selling a quality printer at a very low cost .

  8. Hello Alunar 3D Team,
I bought your M508 printer about a month ago I had so much fun building it. I have had no problems from the first time I turned it on and the quality of the prints is far beyond what I expected. Thank you for such an affordable and fun product. I have installed a Raspberry Pi running Octoprint and am able to watch and control the printer from my work 30 miles away from my house. The one thing that I am trying to do is install a touch probe for auto bed leveling I have no problem with the electronic portion of this install I am broadcast engineer for one of the major television networks and have been for over 40 years. The reason I am writing you is in your documentation you have a file called “How to download the firmware” in this document you show how to load and run the Arduino software but when it calls for the opening of the file “Firmware/Marlin_13” I can’t find this file anywhere. Can you please tell me were I can find this file or can you email a copy. I know that modifying your software will void my warranty and I except the responsibility for doing this. Thank you again for building a great and fun product way better then I ever expected!

    1. Dear Felice,
Thank you very much for your order with our Alunar 3D Printer M508 and your kindly feedback.
For the file”Firmware/Marlin_13″ we will email it to you, please kindly check it.

  9. I own both the M505 and the M508 printers. The M508 is not as good a printer as the M505. I print thin wall parts. the M505 does a great job with no problems. The M508 can not control the temp well enough to print these parts. I have replaced the extruder heater and temp probe 4 times the temp I use is 230 degs and it will very from 220 to 240 degs. I have had problems keeping the Y and X pelts tight (I made parts on the M505 to be able to adjust the belt that problem fixed). The hot bed has only 3 guides where the M505 has 4 the 4 makes the bead move a lot smother. To change the extruder the heater wires are harder to change the connection. I recommend the M505 and I am reducing the M508 to spare parts.

  10. I got good material for the guide.

    Printer’s assembly was completed safely.
But all files are required to install the program.
Ex)test file, such as the installation files, driver files, etc all files,
Send by mail again, please- thanks you sir

  11. Card file is not damaged and will be held in the sd.

  12. Hi I’m very happy with my Alunar M508 one problem i do not see the tune function while it is printing, i understand i will not see it while it is in preheat but i’m actually printing directly from my PC and not from the SD card, i’m printing from Cura and it does also not have a pause button, any help to resolve this? Or am i missing something? Thanks again for the great product.

    1. Dear Barry,
Thank you very much for your order with our Alunar 3D Printer M508.
For the questions you mentioned it is normal.
Because you are printing from PC not from the SD card and that’s why you didn’t see a pause button on it.
But you can operate it by your PC.
We ususally suggest our customer printing from SD card which it is more easier to operate.
If there still any questions please kindy come back to us.
Thank you again for your supporting.

Help a friend of mine with his flashforge finder out of the box and printing in ten minutes…Im not sure whats going on but for me working customer service myself this may be the worst product Ive ever dealt with

    1. Dear Jeremy Moore

Thank you for your order with ALUNAR 3d printer, with sincere apology for the inconvenience.
As it is DIY kit, it need to be assembled one screw one nut and one frame, so take lots of time, it is time consuming and patience needed.even if a small part not good, it will quit for working normally. But for leaning the 3D process and expedience is better.

For the out of box assembled, just need to load the filament and print is ok. that is easy to print.

For the file, sorry for they maybe damaged. you can check on the ALUNAR net under the M508, and also you can add me online, skype:eros1025

    1. Dear Sean

Thank you for your order with ALUNAR 3D printer M508

  19. Hello, I got the m508 from you guys and have completed assembling it yesterday. Upon completion I noticed that the left Z axis bearing seamed to be catching and not allowing vertical movement, whereas the right side was fine. I began testing it out and everything works wonderfully except for that left side. It catches so much that it does not allow for the printer to move the Z axis on the left side. Is there a way to get a replacement bearing for it? I am unable to use the printer until that is fixed.
    Thank you,
    Gordon

    1. Dear Gordon,

Thank you very much for your order with our ALUNAR 3D Printer M508.
      So sorry for the inconvenience.

For the Upon completion I noticed that the left Z axis bearing seamed to be catching and not allowing vertical movement, whereas the right side was fine.
      —pls check the following :
      1. pls check if the left and right Z axis are at the same level,if not ,they would not move smoothly
      2. pls check if two rods of the left Z axis are parallel,if not ,they would not move smoothly
      3. pls check the brass nut of the rod, if the screws are loaded too tight, make them a little loose, to make the rod easy to move

we will send you mail the photos of the solution, pls kindly check them.

If there any questions please kindly feel free to contact us.

  20. Is there a way to get replacement parts? My hot end was leaking melted filament and dripping onto my prints. When I took the hot end apart the barrel broke. I’m looking for a new barrel and maybe heating block because I don’t know If I can get the broken barrel out of the heating block. I just got it Monday and it was working great other than the leak.

    1. If I wanted to replace the whole hot end, what are the specs on the heater element and thermistor?

  23. USB driver doesn’t work, installed as described and nothing. I’m using Windows 10. The Cura and Repetier Host doesn’t recognize the printer. Tried using SD card only, only one fan is working, the “turbo” style fan doesn’t come on. Believe that is causing heat creep and nozzle clogs. I have yet to be able to successfully print anything.

—pls kindly try again , we will send you the new driver to load and pls connect it again, set the correct Baud rate, according tot the instruction user guide

—For the SD card printing, the fan the Turbo style fan only when it start printing, it will work after the second printing layer
The fan working or not is nothing to do with the heat cable and nozzle.

To test the nozzle if it is clogged:
set the nozzle temperature to 230 degree, push the filament inside the barrel tube, to see if the filament comes out by string

  24. Today, after sitting overnight, the printer takes 2 minutes to display the info screen and responds very slowly – I need to hold down the control about 3 seconds before it is recognized. The controller is running very very slowly. The problem must be with the main board. It has gotten worse since my earlier message – the problem does not go away after power is off for a while THE PRINTER IS NO LONGER USABLE.

  25. I received and assembled the M508 two weeks ago. I have satisfactorily printed several items. After printing today, I turned it off. When I turned it on again, the unit did not initialize. (it shows 20 character blocks in the first and third rows.) After turning it off and on several times, it started working again. After printing another small item. I turned it off and when I turned it on again and the same thing happened. I have checked and re-seated the connections but I can’t get it to initialize.
    Please advise.

      1. Thank you for your reply. I have some additional info. I checked the cables to the display board with an ohm meter (checked OK) and made sure they are firmly seated. After being off for an hour, the printer seems to start up and print normally. If I set it to preheat and turn it off when it has heated up, when I turn it back on I get the display I explained earlier. I have used this type of LCD display and recognize this as the start-up screen it shows until it receives commands from the micro-processor. After about 40 seconds the display flashes off and back on again. After about 60 seconds, screen goes blank (still backlit). About 60 seconds after that the main info screen is displayed. it seems to be updated very slowly – the temp changes only every 30 seconds. The control is unresponsive unless held down for a full second. The rotary control is hit-or-miss. After several attempts I was able to select control/preheat and the extruder and bed did begin to heat.

It seems like the display is working OK but that the micro-processor is running very slowly. It’s hard to think it’s firmware since after an hour rest it works again. Once it has started (after being off for a while), the printer will print until powered down. Once I found I could swap SD cards without powering down, I was able to print multiple objects in sequence.

Another observation, seemingly unrelated. There is a 120 VAC charge riding on the 12v supply. It provides minor shock when touching the print bed and any earth ground. Any high impedance, even just touching it, is enough to shunt it.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

  26. Test file link is broken. Test files in the sd card has been erased. Could you please fix the test file link? Thanks
